Judo in London Olympic


Judo is a modern martial art, combat sport and Olympic sport created in Japan in 1882 by Jigoro Kano.  In Olympics, Judo was seen in the 1932 Olympic Games hosted by Kano. In London Olympics also, it has been included in the list of one of the popular game. Judo Competitions at 2012 London Olympics are scheduled to be held from 28 July to 3 August. Judo contests are a five-minute whirlwind of combat, with athletes attempting a combination of throws and holds in a bid to defeat their opponents. The athlete with the highest score in a certain time is the winner. The best score is Ippon, which can be achieved for a throw, a hold, a strangle or an armlock, and results in immediate victory.

A total of 386 competitors will battle across 14 weight categories, seven for men and seven for women. All entries for Judo will be confirmed following the sport entries deadline on 9 July 2012. The sport sees two athletes gain points for throws and holds in a bid to beat their opponent.
