Canoe slalom in London Olympic


Canoe slalom is a competitive sport which aims to navigate a decked canoe or kayak through a course of hanging gates on river rapids in the fastest time possible. It is one of the two kayak and canoeing disciplines at the 2012 Olympics. It is referred to by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) as Canoe slalom.

The first Canoe Slalom competition was held in Switzerland in 1932. It made its debut as an Olympic sport at Munich 1972, but didn’t become a permanent part of the Olympic program until Barcelona 1992. In competition of Canoe slalom in London Olympics, altogether 330 athletes were expected to take part. But, at 2012 Olympics only 82 competitors will take part where 61 are men and 21 are women, with each country limited to one boat per event.
